Born in Pontefract, (web page) West Yorkshire, on the 27th of November 1951. I first became interested in radio during the summer of 1964 whilst on holiday in Essex and tuned across
Radio Caroline. After the closure of the
offshore radio stations (except for Caroline) in August
1967. Radio Northsea International commenced broadcasting in 1970. To pick up their transmissions from the Dutch coast I purchased my first short wave receiver which was a BC 348. I soon became interested in listening to the amateur bands. After spending 10 years as a short wave listener I passed the Radio Amateur's examination. I held the callsign G8VFV
for 5 years until May 1985, when I passed the Morse code test at 12 words per
minute and became G0CAS. I first joined the
Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) in April 1971. My main interest in amateur radio is the study of propagation, particularly aurora and sporadic E. I am now on the 'Propagation Studies
Committee' within the RSGB. I also compile a weekly solar and ionospheric report for the society which is broadcast each Sunday via GB2RS. Click

solar/propagation report, here for the full
GB2RS news broadcast and here
for the GB2RS schedule. Since moving to Dawlish (web
page) (Dawlish
Wall) in November 2005. I am now only active on 144 and
433MHz mobile. However, I operate on CQ 100 from the home QTH. My other hobbies are the weather and astronomy.
I now have a remote weather station, Click
here to see the the very latest data. Also I
observer the Sun in white light and hydrogen-alpha through my two telescopes. I also enjoy going out for short walks and reading. Hope to speak to you soon on CQ 100 VY 73s de Neil, G0CAS.
